Buried Alive

Bury Mechanic Return

New 28 Aug 2019 Asked by bluepostmtg-blog 51 Comments

Could we have Bury back as a mechanic, and expand it to affect indestructible? Since they would be buried alive essentially.

“Bury” destroys creatures such that they can’t be regenerated. Regeneration’s no longer used on new cards. We basically have an effect for “destroy target indestructible creature”. We call it “exile”. : )

Library to Graveyard Cards

If entomb isn't a bend or a break, would it be possible to see a new "library to graveyard" card, such as entomb or buried alive?

It’s in back’s pie, so it’s possible.

Standard Environment Powers

Would you say, in your own personal opinion, that Buried Alive is too powerful for a Standard environment?

Not a developer, yada yada yada, but yes, I think it’s too good.

Buried Alive Reprint

why wasn't Buried Alive reprinted in Innistrad block? It would of fit thematically/flavor-wise, it would work with the graveyard theme, and hell the art and flavor text work perfectly with the atmosphere of Innistrad; so you wouldn't even really to change how it looks! I can understand why Entomb wasn't reprinted, a bit too powerful, but why no Buried Alive?

Buried Alive was in for some of design. The issue boils down to how many good cards to we want to be reprints versus how many good cards do we want to be new cards.

Missing Reprint Choice

I gotta know: why isn't Buried Alive in Innistrad or Dark Ascension? I assume it's not in Avacyn Restored as you've mentioned it's got no graveyard theme. The card seems to be perfectly suited to Innistrad horror and graveyard themes. Thanks! :)

We talked about it, but it was one of a handful of cool reprints that just never found a home in either set.
