Bazaar Trader

Reasons for Donating Permanents

New 29 Apr 2021 Asked by titania776 23 Comments

Under what circumstances does a design team put cards in a set that donate your own permanents to your opponents? Donating never seems to be a main theme in a set. So that leads the one off cards like Donate and Bazaar Trader seems weird in there respective sets.

It’s not an effect we want in volume, so it doesn’t lend itself well to a theme.

Trying again for birthday trivia! Could I please have something about either my favorite card, Bazaar Trader, or find out where my favorite mechanic, Inspired, falls on the storm scale?

Inspired is a 7 as it, ironically even didn’t really inspire players.Happy Birthday!

If donate is so high on the list do you consider bazaar trader a mistake?

9 was Donate the card getting reprinted. Obviously the effect is something we occasionally do.

Card Trivia Birthday

My birthday is tomorrow, so I'm asking now so you can enjoy your crab legs :) Could I get some trivia on Forced Fruition or Bazaar Trader?

Ooh, birthday mates! Forced Fruition came about because we liked the idea of too much of a good thing. It’s awesome at first, but soon you’re like “Too much information!” It was an in-flavor to do in blue something we most often do in black.

Opinions on Donate

I'm surprised to hear you don't like donate! To me, bazaar trader doesn't seem that long ago. Is the issue the donate effect, or is it just silly to make the card, because cards that support donate are inherently unwieldy design?

Now here’s the non-rhyming version. The problem with Donate is that it’s the kind of card that prevents a giant swatch of cards from being able to be made. Is Donate cool in a vacuum? Of course, it’s why I made it in the first place but I have since learned that just because you can make something doesn’t always mean you should. I don’t regret making it but it did teach me a lesson which I don’t want to repeat.
