Vines of Vastwood

Hexproof Origins

Did vines of vastwood lead wizards to keywording hexproof? Seems like that was an effect you wanted in green, without the targeting your opponents creature shenanigans.

Hexproof came about because it was how many players were playing Shroud. Why would your creature keep itself from being helped by you?

Card Design Philosophy

Consider cards like "groundswell", "hunger of the howlpack", "mirran mettle", and now "joint assault". Agreed, they all play differently, but they are all based on the "p/t boost and/or more p/t boost" idea. Why not try more cards like "vines of vastwood" that give the creature resilience without pumping power/toughness? the same question applies to "shock" effects in red as well.

Part of making Magic is doing different things and part of it is doing the same thing. A lot of what makes Magic tick needs to be constant from year to year.
