Sudden Spoiling

Black's Game Dynamics

Can Black still turn creatures into 0/2s like Sudden Spoiling or Sorceress Queen?

It’s not in black’s slice of color pie, but more bend than break.

Re:losing abilities until end of turnYou said white and blue can do that, does that make sudden spoiling a break?

It’s a Time Spiral card referencing a card from Arabian Nights (Sorceress Queen). The ability wasn’t in black even when Time Spiral came out. (We did a bunch of throwback effects). It’s not in black’s color pie. It’s more severe bend than break though.

Re: Sudden Spoiling, before Indestructible became a keyword, it could remove an ability that said "CARDNAME is indestructible," as seen on Darksteel Colossus, but if the indestructibility was granted by another card's effect, such as Darksteel Forge, it would remain.

Sudden Spoiling removes all abilities, not all keyword abilities. FYI

Fair point. It was matching Sorceress Queen.

Sudden Spoiling Explained

I'm not sure if it's still allowable nowadays, but in the color pie's favorite block Black did get Sudden Spoiling which removes indestructibility.

Ah, Time Spiral block, the gift that keeps on giving. Time Spiral, the set about the past, did this thing where it referenced cards that did something currently out of color pie (at the time) that had been done in the past. Sudden Spoiling is referencing the Arabian Nights card Sorceress Queen, the first card to ever have the effect. The ability had since moved to white and blue, but you know, Time Spiral. So no, that’s not a black effect. Also, at the time it was made, it didn’t remove indestructible because it wasn’t a keyword yet. (Yes, it was used, but not yet as a keyword.)

Ultimate Creature Challenge

I think the closest you could come to an unkillable creature would be something with indestructible, Hexproof, and a static ability that read "If ~this~ would leave the battlefield, instead it doesn't." Even then you could still get it with something like Sudden Spoiling. So it would need another static ability that read something like "If this cards text would change, instead it doesn't." Something like that anyways.

We’ve spent time on it. It’s difficult.

Sorceress Queen's Ability

Is Sorceress Queen's ability still in black? It was last seen on Sudden Spoiling, which might've been Planar Chaos, but it's like an absolute form of -X/-X, which is one of Black's standard tools.

That ability is in Blue now not Black.
