Counting Princess Cards

New 27 May 2024 Asked by zombsidian 5 Comments

Of the over 27,000 Magic cards made, only four have the word Princess in their name. The first Princess Lucrezia came out in Legends back in 1994. Two are from Eldraine, our fairy tale inspired plane: Beloved Princess and The Princess Takes Flight. The final one is the only Universes Beyond card, from The Princess Bride Secret Lair: Buttercup, Provincial Princess.

I don't mean to "Uhm, actually" but don't Princess Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon // Princess Luna also count twoards the Princess name count?

They do. I don’t know why my search didn’t bring them up.

I imagine you've gotten this ask before, but I can't find the ruling for it.
What is the intended way to resolve the WUBERG ability of Princess Twilight Sparkle? 4 of the creatures it lists do not exist. My group has a rule 0 ruling for it, but we're curious what the intended way to resolve it is

The only way to accomplish it (that I’m aware of) is to use four copies of _________ from Unhinged to create four creatures with those four names.

Card Effect Interplay

If I Use Baron Von Count to destroy a player while I have an Abyssal Persecutor on the battlefield, does that prevent them from being destroyed or are they simply destroyed without loosing? If it's the latter, can I then use Princess Twilight Sparkle to cause a destroyed player to win or are they no longer considered to exist for the purposes of that effect?

It keeps them from being destroyed as being destroyed is losing.

So I suppose we'll have to dust off our ______s from Unhinged to play the Extra Life Princess Twilight Sparkle card, eh?

I just ruled yesterday that you can choose names for ________ that are referenced in rules text, so yes.
