9 Kings Reference

magic pop culture reference: Lightbringer, by Brent Weeks has a prominent card game called 9 kings which he says was completely based on magic. he really has fun with it, creating his own mechanics, like instead mana the game is played with a sundial and each turn you're able to play more powerful cards, until mid day when the sun is at is highest point and then the cards go down again. very interesting stuff and some of my favorite parts of the book. let me know if you already knew this!

Interesting.

More on trivia: In the Lightbringer series, by Brent Weeks, has its own version of Magic: The Gathering, called "Nine Kings". I was so exited to see a MTG reference in my books!

Magic in Pop Culture

Since I've asked Gavin, I figured I'd ask you too. Do you know the writer Brent Weeks? He's author of The Night Angel Trilogy, and still ongoing Lightbringer Series. In the second tome of the latter, "The Blinding Knife", a big theme is one of the protagonist's involvement into a magical card game, with famous characters and artifacts showed on cards of different colors from the light's spectrum. I think you can figure, which real-life game inspired this :) One of my favourite books, too ;)

That’s awesome. I always love when Magic peeks its head into other forms of pop culture. Please always feel free to share with me (well, us) when you see Magic or Magic-inspired things in other media.
