Imperial Seal

Timeline for Card Reprints

New 12 Mar 2021 Asked by juzamsgrin 36 Comments

Why does it take so long to get certain cards reprinted? Imperial Seal has been long overdue, yet never gets the nod for a reprint. Is Secret Lair a possibility?

It’s a combination of two things. One, there are a lot of possible cards to get reprinted. Two, there are only so many reprint opportunities and each slot has to meet the needs of its product. The combination is a very complex system, and not every card is going to easily fit in. Luckily, we make a lot of products, so there are always more opportunities.

Secret Lair Puns Request

Could I request Secret Lair: Terrible Puns? I'd love to see an Imperial Seal where the art featured a domineering pinniped.

Reprint Likelihood

"Does this mean that Imperial Seal and similar products from that set are still available for reprint?" "Yes." Does this mean that Imperial Seal and similar products are likely to be reprinted?

Not necessarily.

Portal Cards Reprint

Mark, I noticed that cards from portal have somehow escaped the reserved list. Does this mean that Imperial Seal and similar products from that set are still available for reprint?

Yes.

Eternal Card Reprints

Even the RL aside, Wizards has done little or nothing to improve availability of many non-listed Eternal-playable cards -- Force of Will, Wasteland, Imperial Seal, etc. Why not? It wouldn't solve the problem but it would help.

The problem is what product exactly do you put them in? We don’t want to undercut the value of the original ones yet we want a product that people are willing to buy. It’s tricky. That said, we are not against reprinting some of these cards but we have to find the right means to do so.

Cost of Tutors

"Over the last ten years, R&D has weakened a lot of things black has historically done well." If naught else, Black could stand to have a boundless tutor for less than 4 cmc. I'd play Grim Tutor in a heartbeat, or Imperial Seal. Heck, I'd play Imperial Seal reworked at 2B, I don't care. Tutors are so staple Black, and now they cost so very much :( If Black is struggling as you put it, could one not reinstate Things That Worked for Black from the past, and then see how it plays out?

The cost a lot because they need to. Tutors in general take away the variance that helps Magic be so fun by having games play out differently.

Seal Card Humor

Does Imperial Seal affect you the same way that Ground Seal does?

I’m curious who the Imperial Seal rules over. Other seals?
