Named Token Makers

where are named token makers like goldmeadow lookout and llanowar mentor on the storm scale?

That was mostly a future sight schtick. I’d say the chances of that are low, but not impossible.

Spoiling Card Names

What other times have you spoiled a card's name in the set before it's released?

Helm of Kaldra from Fifth Dawn showed up in the rules text of Shield of Kaldra in Darksteel. And Goldmeadow Harrier from Lorwyn was in the rules text of Goldmeadow Lookout on a futureshifted card in Future Sight. Those are the two off the top of my head.

Isamaru's Current Appeal

If it didn't exist, would players still find Isamaru, Hound of Konda exciting if printed today?

As Goldmeadow Stalwart has been printed (another 2/2 for W from Lorwyn), I believe the impact would be a little less.

Future Sight Cards

In your most recent article, you said "Future Sight is full of glimpses of the future but Goldmeadow Lookout and Tarmogoyf were the two cards where we planted something we knew the audience would assume was hinting at a known future rather than a potential one." What is the difference between, say, Tarmogoyf and Steamflogger Boss that makes the audience assume that it's the known future being hinted at, and not just a potential future? Both directly reference card types that don't exist yet.

Every other card in Future Sight was us teasing at potential futures - things we might do both mechanically and creatively. Only those two cards did we definitely know what we were doing with them in the next set. I know players want Steamflogger Boss to mean something and maybe someday it will but be aware that card was intended more as a joke - although a joke that seems to have resonated so well it might cause its own future to come true. We’ll have to see.
