Form of the Dinosaur

Expectations for 'Form of the...' Cards

New 09 Apr 2022 Asked by joseph-greenwood 36 Comments

Can I request more "Form of the..." cards? Ever since I discovered Form of the Dragon and Form of the Squirrel fifteen years ago, they've been one of my favorite concepts in Magic, and I was ecstatic when we got Form of the Dinosaur.

I hope we do more. I’m a fan.

Red Enchantments Rarity

Why are the "weird and wordy red enchantments" like Warp World, Sun Bird's Invocation, Form of the Dinosaur, Guild Feud and Haphazard Bombardment rare instead of Mythic? Thanks for answering our questions sir.

Cards that are complex and/or very niche oriented are put at rare rather than mythic rare which tends to get the more splashy effects.

Banning Criteria

I know you guys don't really want to ban your key art mythics (or any cards really) but do you agree with the banning of Felidar Guardian instead of Saheeli when Felidar Guardian could have seen much more play. For example it would let me bounce form of the Dinosaur.

When given a choice between banning an uncommon and banning a mythic rare, we lean towards banning the uncommon.

Form of the Dinosaur

Can you high five whoever made form of the dinosaur? I enjoyed eating many creatures and winning at 1 hp a few games due to it. Went down to if they top decked a creature I'd lose.

Will do.

Form of the Dinosaur

Was Form of the Dinosaur reseting you life total like Form of the Dragon ever considered? While it might not be in the color pie, not tracking damage between turns is something that really captures the creature feel that Form of the Dinosaur is lacking.

The card becomes significantly more powerful if you reset the life and would have to cost significantly more. It also becomes a much less interesting card - basically a green Abyss.

Rivals Appreciation

Minotaur Planeswalker? Form of the Dinosaur? Giant crazy strong creatures? Rivals seems like it's going to be one of my favorites. No complaints from me here, and awesome work!

Glad you’re enjoying it.

Dinosaurs in Fantasy

Form of the dinosaur sums up the problem that I, and many enfranchised players have with dinosaurs as a type, they are dragons lite, for a younger crowd. (How many dragons are on kids pajamas?). Dinosaurs are also much less relatable to fantasy as a genre, as they are real animals.

Dinosaurs have made a lot of players very happy.
