Australian-inspired Plane and Minotaurs

New 02 Apr 2022 Asked by krinstranger 42 Comments

If you did an Australian-inspired plane, how hard would you try to give it a Minotaur subtheme to go with the silly-but-recognized old card Didgeridoo?

I don’t think we’d include Minotaurs solely because of that card. World decisions are seldom shaped by one old card existing.

Moving Away from Tribal Card Type

New 13 Jan 2022 Asked by tupiaz 26 Comments

Tribal have seen some resurgence lately in non-standard sets. What are the chances of errata old cards which have clear tribal identity to give them the tribal card type? Spells like Brightstone Ritual, Goblin War strike, Goblin Grenade, Elvish Guidance and Didgeridoo. I think it would be a net positive since they would make tribal more playable.

We are moving away from the tribal card type not toward it.

Didgeridoo Card Flavor Explanation

New 04 Oct 2021 Asked by the-machine-orthodoxy 70 Comments

Can you explain the flavor behind Didgeridoo? Why does an aboriginal Australian instrument summon a Greek monster of The Labyrinth?

The Minotaurs in Homelands are concepted as being more Australian in influence. I never got it either.

Minotaurs Support Appreciation

As a fan of minotaurs (especially in Magic thanks to the ridiculous Didgeridoo), I love the support the tribe has received especially getting a Planeswalker. Please high five all those responsible.

Will do.

Why does Didgeridoo summon Minotaurs??

For some reason, on Ulgrotha the minotaurs have an Australian influence.

Musical Instruments

How many different musical instruments have been depicted in Magic? I can only think of Didgeridoo and Goblin War Drums.

Goblin Lyre. I’m sure there’s more.

Weatherlight Card Correction

New 07 Feb 2014 Asked by xelajohnson 16 Comments

Question. The Weatherlight did not see a printed card. Will Weatherlight 2: Electric Didgeridoo see one?

The Weatherlight saw print as the card Skyship Weatherlight in Planeshift.

Didgeridoo and Theros

If Didgeridoo wasn't on the reserved list, would a functional reprint be possible for Theros Block, or would it be considered too powerful?

It’s not too powerful.

Didgeridoo and Theros

Maro, you fool! All you've done is prompt 30 more people to whine about Didgeridoo not being reprinted in Theros!

Even if it wasn’t on the Reserved List, it has zero Greek mythology flavor.

Reserved List Reasoning

New 11 Sep 2013 Asked by waxingnostalgicforthe90s 9 Comments

Why does Didgeridoo have to be on the Reserved List? :(

80% of all rares from the affected sets had to be put on the Reserved List and we didn’t see Didgeridoo at the time as something we would want to reprint. Theros block will have minotaur tribal love though.

Didgeridoo Reprint Unlikely

With minotaurs in the Theros will didgeridoo be reprinted at some point?

I believe it is on the Reserved List so no.

Didgeridoo and Minotaurs Design

New 03 Aug 2013 Asked by fire-fangled-blog 27 Comments

Does the existence of didgeridoo affect the way you design minotaurs?

It has absolutely zero effect. Moving forward there is no tie between minotaurs and Australia.
