Desert Nomads

Keyword and Color Pie

Regarding if Desert Nomads were in Amonkhet, do you guys strongly consider things like that that you know people would want and make people happy, or do you just dismiss them for silly reasons like "Protection and landwalk aren't ever green any more, we haven't done those abilities in a while, and there are no other cards in the set with those abilities?" No one who plays magic, new or old, would get a broken brain over how those abilities work or thay no other creature in the set has them.

Our goal is to make people happy while still doing things like using keywords we currently support and upholding the color pie.

Non-Basic Land Subtypes

New 14 Sep 2014 Asked by spadesslick 56 Comments

The land Desert was printed with the Desert subtype. This allowed it to be referenced on the cards Camel (Desert deals no damage to it) and Desert Nomads (which has desertwalk and also isn't dealt damage by Desert). My question is: Would you ever print a land with a non-basic subtype in modern Magic?

If there was a good mechanical design reason, sure.

Unique Land Types

Mark, what's the deal with Urza's Factory and Desert? They both have land types that don't mean or do anything. At least the Lair cycle and the 2 Locus lands care about their own land types. Is there any plan to utilize the "Desert" or "Urza's" land types for anything?

Desert matters mechanically in the very set it was introduced with the Desert Nomads and Camel. The Urza’s subtype was needed for rules reasons, I believe.
