Daybreak Coronet

Daybreak Coronet Strategy

New 14 Jun 2015 Asked by knobslobbing 31 Comments

While I really like the MM15 limited format, there's one thing that irks me that I don't quite understand. Why was Daybreak Coronet printed with zero hexproof creatures, zero indestructible creatures, and only one beneficial aura?

It was added to give people access to it for Modern and not for limited.

Justifying Daybreak Coronet Reprint

New 09 May 2015 Asked by dunharrow-le-dingue 40 Comments

Why is Daybreak Coronet is in MM2015. It only pairs with Goblin War Paint and Splinter Twin. There are not enough auras to justify playing this card. I understand that it needed a reprint, but surely it could have been reprinted in a set with more than one common aura.

Some reprints are for constructed and not limited.

Daybreak Coronet

Hey Mark, love the blog. Was Daybreak Coronet considered to be in Theros and if so, why didn't it make the cut?

It never was as it’s considered too powerful for Standard.

Daybreak Coronet Power Concerns

New 24 May 2014 Asked by lynnis1115 23 Comments

Was Daybreak Coronet ever considered for Theros block?, it seemed like it would have been a great fit both flavor wise (blessing by Heliod?) and mechanically (in tandem with bestow). I assume it was a power level issue?

Yes, it was a power level issue.

Daybreak Coronet Origins

Was it ever intended that Daybreak Coronet was from Theros?

The problem with the card is a developmental one I believe. I think it’s too strong for Standard. (Not a developer, yada yada.)

Daybreak Coronet in Theros

Daybreak coronet seems like the perfect card for theros block. Any chance of seeing it?

There is always a chance. Be aware that the card is very high powerwise which is one of the strikes against it.

Excluding Daybreak Coronet

Nessian Courser is fine and all, but if this isn't the set for Daybreak Coronet, what is? Did you exclude it for any specific reason?

I’m not sure Daybreak Coronet isn’t too powerful for Standard. (Not a developer, yada yada.)

Lifelink Clarification

New 07 May 2013 Asked by mtgraptor 11 Comments

Mark stop being ignorant about the lifelink change! Just read the Daybreak Coronet printed version and the updated oracle text. And you will see it was changed.

I didn’t say lifelink was never changed. I said lifelink was never “spirit link” (aka it could never be put onto the opponent’s creature and gain you life for the damage). “Spirit link” is the ability on Armadillo Cloak.
