Crib Swap

Crib Swap Concerns

New 25 May 2024 Asked by lovinglystar 12 Comments

Hey- I saw this upcoming card called "Crib swap" and it's sincerely and undeniably based on an ableist myth about autistic people that resulted in years of abuse because people thought their children had been "replaced" by changelings. How does something like this get approved?

It’s based on many centuries old Celtic tales about Faeries. Its origins are many hundreds of years before modern science even identified autism. As with many old tropes, I’m sure people have adapted them for different purposes, but its origins are the same Celtic source material than most of Lorwyn’s world building was based on.

un-rules question: what happens if you use mary o'kill's ability to switch herself on the battlefield with a Crib Swap on the stack? does the crib swap end up on the battlefield?

No.

Crib Swap Cuteness

My vote for cute goes to Crib Swap. Technically not a creature but it shows off a baby Changeling and a doting yet unsuspecting Kithkin mother. Cute. : )

Agreed.

Conditional Exile Debate

So, Chaos Warp breaks the color pie. What about white's unconditional creature exile? (Path to Exile, Crib Swap, Iona's Judgment, Trostani's Judgment...)

I’ve long been a critic of cards like Swords to Plowshares. I strongly feel white’s answers need to be conditional (I feel like white kills in defense) or have answers.

Tribal in Supplemental Products

Could we see new cards with tribal in supplemental products? I so love Nameless Inversion or Crib Swap in tribal EDH deck and want new cards like them.

We have no current plans on using tribal on any new cards.
