Equipment as Hats

Mark, if I have a creature equipped with Helm of Kaldra (or other helmet equipments), does it count as wearing a hat?

I’ll say yes.

What happens if you control goblin haberdasher and a hatless creature, then equip the hatless creature with, say Helm of Kaldra? Does the equipped headwear count as a hat for the haberdasher?

Technically, the hat must be on in the art.

Kaldra Cycle Origins

Hey Mark! I'm a huge fan of everything you guys do. I wouldn't have a lot of the friendships or as close of a bond with my fiance if it weren't for this great game. Thank You for the Magic that is MTG! Today happens to be my birthday and I was hoping I could have some trivia on the Sword, Shield and Helm of Kaldra?

I came up with the idea of the Kaldra cycle. It actually required a little salesmanship on my part because others weren’t convinced we should reference a card that wasn’t printed yet. I think Helm of Kaldra was the first Magic card to do that. Happy Birthday!

Spoiling Card Names

What other times have you spoiled a card's name in the set before it's released?

Helm of Kaldra from Fifth Dawn showed up in the rules text of Shield of Kaldra in Darksteel. And Goldmeadow Harrier from Lorwyn was in the rules text of Goldmeadow Lookout on a futureshifted card in Future Sight. Those are the two off the top of my head.

Future Card References

Any chance of seeing more cards in the future that reference cards that haven't been printed yet? (Like Shield of Kaldra referencing Helm of Kaldra)

I’m sure we’ll do it again. I’m a big fan of the practice.
