Five-Finger Discount

Commander Theft Mechanic

Can I Five-Finger Discount my opponent’s Commander?

If it’s on the battlefield you can. The problem (I believe, Commander players correct me if I’m wrong) is that whenever it heads to a different zone from the battlefield, the Commander’s controller may have it go to the Command zone instead.

Spike Draft Tale

In my Unstable draft, I got a Spike. Luckily, somebody near me had an Umizawa’s Jitte on hand. However, my opponent had a Five-Finger Discount, and used said Jitte to kill me. Most fun I’ve had playing Magic in a LONG time.

Thanks for sharing. Fun story.

Unstable Game Fun

Unstable is SO MUCH FUN! Tonight I got pulled in to a game with a Better Than One, and my teammate had The Grand Calcutron - so I got to draw a bunch of cards straight away, including his Griselda. My teammate decked out but I managed to get him a draw. I then faced him in round 3, and cast Five-Finger Discount on Griselda. So in two different rounds I got to cast the same person's Griselda - after having drafted WU. Thank you for this set!

You’re welcome. I love hearing all the Unstable stories.

Five-Finger Discount

New 03 Dec 2017 Asked by nolongerbreathedin 23 Comments

Say I cast Five-Finger Discount on a multi-card permanent (B.F.M. excepted, the answer there is obvious). Can I cast the resulting cards individually and use any color of mana to pay for their casting costs?

Here’s what happens if you Five-Finger Discount a Host/Augment creature. You put both in your hand. You then can cast the Host creature with any color mana. The Augment card though isn’t being cast, so you can Augment but you have to pay the actual color of mana.
