Barbtooth Wurm

Unplayable Cards Purpose

I just read your "when good cards go bad" article on why bad cards exist. It was very good at explaining why underpowered rares such as One With Nothing or Mudhole exist, but I'm still stumped as to why unplayably bad cards are made. Mostly, I'm referring to overpriced vanilla creatures such as Barbtooth Wurm, Thraben Purebloods, or Armored Cancrix. These are cards that wouldn't appear in any deck, limited or otherwise. Why do they exist?

We have data from Magic Online. You would be surprised what actually gets played.
