Divine Intervention and Tournament Issues

Divine Intervention was only banned from August 1994 till October 1999. Same time frame as Mirror Universe and Underworld Dreams, one of which was recently reprinted in Standard the other that while not able to be reprinted has had similar effects printed. There were some real special cards on that list like Ali from Cairo, Sword of the Ages and Dingus Egg. So saying a card was banned as one point in time is really not a relevant argument for it being unfun.

I didn’t say it was unfun. I said it caused problems in tournaments. That said, I do believe drawing games is not particularly fun. That just wasn’t what I argued.

Sword Trivia

Hey Mark, my birthday was on the 17th, but I'm guessing the ask was lost. Is there any trivia about swords in MTG you have for us? I've alway wanted to make a sword themed deck... Thanks so much!

While Alpha references swords in the card Swords from Plowshares, Magic didn’t get an actual sword until Legend’s Sword of the Ages almost a year later. Happy Birthday!

Artifact Design Philosophy

In your perfect world, would older "weapons" such as Sword of the Ages and Sword of the Chosen have been designed as equipment, or is there still a place for non-equipment artifact weapons in Magic?

Weapons your creatures use would be equipment while weapons you use would be general artifacts.
