Rekindling Phoenix

Phoenix Art Diversity

About Phoenix Chick, I really like how the art breaks from the standard mold of what phoenixes in Magic always look like. They are nearly always hawk-like birds-of-prey. My favorite phoenix art in Magic is the owl-like Rekindling Phoenix from RIX. I know it's not your department, but I was hoping you could pass along a request to the creative/concepting team for more species variety in the creature type? Thanks!

I’ll pass the request along.

Red's Defensive Strength?

New 09 Apr 2019 Asked by ceciliajupe 26 Comments

In the past several sets, some of the best blocking creatures (Hazoret, Goblin Chainwhirler, Rekindling Phoenix, Arclight Phoenix) have come from Red. Is blocking a strength in Red with regards to color identity?

Not specifically, but all colors can block.

Card Design Impact

"Just like we don’t want to ignore the players who love limited, we also can’t ignore those that love constructed." It seems that in recent sets there have been a few cards that are powerful but have a widely unwelcome impact on Constructed (Scarab God, Rekindling Phoenix etc.) and are being oppressive in draft, as well as some (Aethertide Whale, Tetzimoc) that never break into Constructed but are unhealthy in Limited. These designs seem the sort that could be excised, as they serve no one well.

The majority of Magic play is neither tournament play nor limited.
