Exile Zone Philosophy

https://www.tumblr.com/markrosewater/739812766104371200/hey-mark-question-about-future-design-space-for?source=shareSo do you believe that cards like Pull from Eternity and Coax from the Blind Eternities were design mistakes?

I do. I don’t think the exile zone should be a second graveyard. It’s an important tool to remove things we want to stay removed.

About Reverse Flicker Mechanic

RE the question about Reverse Flicker. Not exactly the same, but Pull from Eternity, Venser’s Diffusion, and Riftsweeper all function in close proximity to what the asker was mentioning.

Blacker Lotus Use

New 28 Dec 2019 Asked by wisp788 24 Comments

If I rip up Blacker Lotus and remove the pieces from the game, if I, for example, cast Pull from Eternity, do I retrieve all the pieces? Can/do I tape/glue them back together? If I'm only allowed to retrieve one piece at a time, do they still function as whole cards? Or would I have to grab all 4 pieces? Finally, if I don't tape/glue them back together, do I rip just one piece into 4, or do I have to do that to each piece? Sorry for the long question, and thanks in advance!

Once it’s ripped up, you can never use it again even if you can get the pieces back,

Exile Zone Mechanics

I know you're generally reluctant to print cards that take other cards out of exile, but if you had a set-defining mechanic that banked on the exile zone (like how Suspend engendered Riftsweeper & Pull from Eternity), would you be open to making more?

No. The exile zone should be a place we can send things so they don’t come back.

Exile Zone Interaction

New 14 Feb 2015 Asked by itsnotsafetogoalone 42 Comments

If anything, there needs to be more cards that interact with the exile zone. Riftsweeper and Pull from Eternity are the only two cards that can bring a card back from exile without some sort of added condition attached to it. (Runic Repetition almost counts but it says a card with flashback)

Let’s agree to disagree.

What is the possibility of us seeing a return of cards like pull from eternity?

Not if I can help it.

Hate’s a bit strong, but I don’t return its phone calls.

Exiling Cards Opinions

Adding on to the Pull from Eternity question, do you feel the same way about Misthollow Griffin, a creature that can be cast from exile?

Misthollow Griffin is a little better in that it can only affect itself. I’m not a fan but I dislike Misthollow Griffin less than I dislike Pull from Eternity.

Exile Mechanic Preference

New 20 Mar 2013 Asked by androgeus 3 Comments

Would you feel better about Pull from Eternity if it could only target things in the stasis kind of exile?

I’d rather not make cards that get cards out of exile that it did not put there.

Views on Exile

How does Pull from Eternity make you feel?

I’m not a fan. I believe that cards that have been exiled should stay exiled. Note I’m fine with cards that use the exile zone as a stasis where the card both puts it there and then brings them back.

Against Exile Zone Retrieval

You have previously stated that you fought against Misthollow Griffin. Did you also fight against Pull from Eternity? It can move any card from the exile zone to the graveyard.

I fight against any card that gets things back from the exile zone so yes, I fought against Pull from Eternity. Note that Wishes originally (and currently) do not get things from the exile zone so I did not fight against them.
