Orcish Lumberjack

CEDH Staple Card Availability

New 08 Jul 2024 Asked by lrhall94universe-blog 4 Comments

As someone who plays mostly CEDH there are a few staples that are not reserve list that tend to just be generally hard to find even though they are not expensive, while secret lairs have introduced new arts and inventory for some of these cards certain cards like demonic consultation, tarnished citadel, and orcish lumberjack are still hard to comeby in good condition. i know you guys can't reprint everything all the time but maybe expressing CEDH meta cards in reprint sets helps people enter into this growing sub-sect of a fun and exciting format; Cheers and Looking forward to MTGxMarvel and FF

I can pass along the request.

Magic's Core Fantasy Expressions

While I'm not a fan of sneakers in Magic, I do appreciate your responses to some of the recent questions. I think back to how kooky stuff has always been a part of magic. From Arabian Nights, to cards like Orcish Lumberjack, magic _has_ always been weird. Recently its just the core fantasy is taking a back seat to corny tropes and pandering. We got UB, were told its not for everyone, and then immediately got UB-esque content in premier sets, repeatedly. Excited for the pendulum to swing back.

Bloomburrow is the pendulum swinging back on that front. It is core high fantasy.

Orcish Lumberjack Power Level

"Orcish Lumberjack is in red, and probably even reprintable in the modern color pie.... (maybe not for power reasons, though) It is a wee bit strong. : )" Goblin Clearcutter was Printed in Legions with the same effect (although not on a 1 mana creature).

The one mana was a big part of the power level.

It's even older than squandered resources, but Orcish Lumberjack is in red, and probably even reprintable in the modern color pie.... (maybe not for power reasons, though)

It is a wee bit strong. : )

Is orcish lumberjack too strong for standard?

Not a play designer, but yes.

Orcish Lumberjack Reprint

New 17 Apr 2014 Asked by mementomosi 22 Comments

I asked you a while ago if was at all possible for Orcish Lumberjack to be reprinted. Your response: "My gut answer was no, so I asked Billy Moreno, a developer. His response was, 'Hell, no.' So, no." Seven months after that, Orcish Lumberjack was reprinted in Duel Decks: Heroes vs. Monsters. Did you know that that was going to happen ahead of time?

When someone asks me about reprinting I assume they mean in a Standard legal set.

Could Orcish Lumberjack ever be reprinted?

My gut answer was no, so I asked Billy Moreno, a developer. His response was, “Hell, no.” So, no.
