Nekrataal

R&D's View on Green ETB

New 30 Apr 2021 Asked by thornthallid 52 Comments

What's R&D's stance on green ETB fight creatures? Are they just considered okay now? As much as I like green, it doesn't rely on playing a deck with creatures any more than Nekrataal does.

We’re pulling back on it. I agree that medium to large creature with ETB fight are too much like a Nekrtaal.

Green's Fight Mechanic

Green gets one sided fight so could green get a creature that etb and one sided fight , making a sort of Flametounge Kavu effect (costed properly of course)

Maybe for a small amount of damage, but make it bigger than tiny and it becomes a Nekrataal, something green should not be doing.

Term 187 Explanation

New 21 Jun 2014 Asked by myheartgoesoontz 24 Comments

To further clarify, the term "187" started being used around the era of the Survival of the Fittest/Recurring Nightmare standard deck, when many of the creatures with ETB abilities used were those that killed something upon entering play, like Nekrataal and Ukatabi Orangatang.

That is correct. I should stress that while I am trying to help explain Magic slang, I want to point out that this particularly slang is upsetting to some people and something like ETB (for “enter the battlefield”) is probably a better choice.

Common 187 Effects

Are 187 effects like Nekrataal's allowed at common under NWO?

Yes. What we tend to avoid at common these days is “enter the battlefield” effects that 2-for-1 especially creature kill.
