Joint Assault

Pairing Mechanic Expansion

With the FAQ for Soulbond referring to creatures still being paired if one loses Soulbond, and cards like Joint Assault talking about paired creatures, not just Soulbond creatures; does this mean we could see pairing show up in other mechanics?

TUMBLR ERROR ORIGINAL QUESTION PARAPHRASED: WHY NOT MAKE A DOUBLE-FACED LEGENDARY WEREWOLF THAT DOESN’T TRANSFORM BACK?  (THAT’S WHY IT’S LEGENDARY.) One of the things I learned as a writer is to make sure you understand what’s special about your character and make sure he doesn’t lose that. A werewolf that doesn’t become human kind of loses the point of being a werewolf for me.

Card Design Philosophy

Consider cards like "groundswell", "hunger of the howlpack", "mirran mettle", and now "joint assault". Agreed, they all play differently, but they are all based on the "p/t boost and/or more p/t boost" idea. Why not try more cards like "vines of vastwood" that give the creature resilience without pumping power/toughness? the same question applies to "shock" effects in red as well.

Part of making Magic is doing different things and part of it is doing the same thing. A lot of what makes Magic tick needs to be constant from year to year.
