Cave Errata Considerations

New 17 Nov 2023 Asked by myheartgoesoontz 35 Comments

Regarding cave errata: there are 16 lands that have "cave" or "cavern" in their names but aren't the cave type. BUT multiple of these are part of existing cycles where the other members wouldn't be caves (i.e. Forgotten Cave, Bloodfell Caves, Caves of Koilos). 6/16 definitely are and 3 of the remaining are part of looser cycles. Was this a factor in the decision not to make the change?

It was one of a number of issues.

Land Reprints Issue

"No, lands are easier than most to reprint." I think it was in that article spoiling Piledriver but somebody said that there would be a greater focus on making sure that cards fit the set/plane in every way from now on, name included. What does this mean for land reprints with specific plane-related names like "Caves of Koilos" and Urborg etc?

Land cycles that mention specific geographic places are problematic but we tend to name land cycles these days generically allowing us to reprint them in any world.

Legendary Land Criteria

I always wondered why Caves of Koilos wasn't a Legendary land? I mean, it's THE place that started the biggest storyline in the history of the entire game!

It’s because we were mostly at the time not making lands legendary because the game play was so bad.
