Bonfire of the Damned

Color Identity Balance

Blue excelling at many low as-fan things vs. other colors excelling at a few high as-fan things means blue's splashy (set-selling) MEMORABLE cards get to be more varied and unique. Ex. All Modern Masters mythics: U: Keiga, Snapcaster Mage, Temporal Manipulation, Tezzeret the Seeker, Vendilion Clique. 5 radically different effects, 2 blue-exclusive. Vs. R: Bonfire of the Damned, Comet storm, Kiki-Jiki, Past in Flames, Ryusei; 3/5 are damage boardwipes, the other 2 could be bends in U. See issue?

I’ve talked plenty about how Snapcaster is pushing more towards red and Vendilion Click is a black card masquerading as a blue card (aka a heavy bend). Things are more balanced than they seem.

Randomness in Cards

Given that coin flips are not pushed competitively, why does Development sometimes push cards that have a lot variance as well? Delver of Secrets, Dark Confidant and Bonfire of the Damned come to mind.

Because players are much more accepting of randomness when it comes from the top of the library.

Unique Card Request

Please print "Burn the meat" from a recent TFTP; Between that and Bonfire of the damned, my BBQ theme deck would really start taking shape!

For a card I made simply to make a joke, I actually like the design. I’ll see if I can find a home for it.
