Bonds of Mortality

Black's Lack of Removal

New 20 Nov 2019 Asked by siamkor 36 Comments

Green (Bonds of Mortality) and Red (Hour of Devastation) have cards that remove indestructible. Why not Black? I could see it replacing the discontinued "creatures destroyed this way can't regenerate this turn."

Black already has “target creature gets -N/-N until end of turn”.

Bonds of Mortality Logic

Why is it that Bonds of Mortality removes Hexproof, but none of the Eldrazi Titans actually HAVE Hexproof? I mean, it also removes Indestructible, which Ulamog has, so I assume Kozilek was meant to have Hexproof?

We were trying to make a card that had utility over and above the story.

Indestructibility Explained

"'I was told that ulamog is dead. that makes no sense. It is indestructible. How does it make any sense?' Indestructible in Magic does not mean impervious to death. For instance, -N/-N effects can kill a creature with Indestructible." Also Bonds of Mortality, a story moment card, specifically removes indestructible.

A good point.

Card Mechanic Utility

Bonds of Mortality makes your opponent's creatures lose hexproof in addition to indestructible. Neither Ulamog or Kozilek have hexproof. Does that mean Emrakul will have hexproof?

Cards need to be generally useful mechanically in addition to hitting story points.
