Undead Augur

Difference in Card Mechanics

Several zombies have death triggers that cause you to draw and lose a life -- for example, Undead Augur says "Whenever Undead Augur or another Zombie you control dies, you draw a card and you lose 1 life." So, why does Midnight Reaper instead say "Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, Midnight Reaper deals 1 damage to you and you draw a card"? Is there any purposeful flavor/mechnical/etc. difference between losing 1 life and the card doing 1 damage to you?

Midnight Reaper was made during a time we were experimenting with doing all life loss in black as damage,
