Teleport

Mechanics of Planeswalking

New 07 Mar 2022 Asked by squeezyboi 64 Comments

Hi Mark, I have a bit of a lore question that's bugged me for a while: does the mechanics of planeswalking let planeswalkers basically teleport? Eg: Let's say I'm a planeswalker student at Strixhaven, and I want to get from my dorm to my class quickly. Could I hypothetically planeswalk to Ravnica, then planeswalk back to my home plane, but end up in my classroom instead of my dorm?

No. When you planeswalk back to a world, you go to the spot you came from.

Teleport as a Keyword

Could Teleport being a forgettable spell from Magic's past open the word Teleport up to more likely being a keyword or ability in the game?

Yes.

Are we allowed to ask/are you allowed to say what you would have teleport be if it weren't already taken? Something flicker-y?

A flicker spell would be cool.

Card Design Improvement Wishes

I've heard that you wished fireball had an easier to grok effect so that you could use it more, because of how iconic the spell is. Are there any other card designs you wish were different so you could use them more?

There are lots. Teleport being a useless spell annoys me to no end.

Names for Better Cards

Do you ever wish that you could have saved names like "Teleport" or "Camouflage" for better cards? At least cards that do something similar to what the name implies?

I do.

Card Name Regrets

If there is one cardname on an older Magic card that you would have saved for a new card instead, which cardname would it be?

I wish Teleport was used on a better spell.
