Hi Mark! If I animate a Battle (Liquimetal Coating, Rise and Shine), can it attack itself?

No. If a card is both battle and creature, it can’t attack or block.

Does the existence of the card "Rise and Shine" prevent a later split card from being named Rise // Shine? (And any other X and Y style names)

Technically, it does not. We’ve also moved away from _____ & _____ names for split cards.
