Nessian Wilds Ravager

Hydra Size Perception

I think the problem with most hydras as green's iconic is an emotional one. I want green's iconic to be gigantic, but a pile of +1/+1 counters doesn't feel big like a creature with a big P/T printed on it does, it mostly just feels like a bunch of small things shoved in a pile. It feels like a swarm of locusts rather than an elephant. Cards like Nessian Wilds Ravager are good, though, since their base P/T is big even before any counters.

Hydra’s big thing is that they grow. That can be done mostly by two means: +1/+1 counters or */* stats. In neither case do the giant stats get to be printed on the card because they are going to change.

I for one like Hydras as Green's iconic and don't think they always need to be counter based. How well received were Hydra Omnivore, Khalni Hydra, and Nessian Wilds Ravager?

All hydras do not need to be counter based. Ones that haven’t have been received well.
