Hammer Dropper

Mentor Mechanic Interaction

If my opponent attacks with just a Hammer Dropper and I attack during their attack step with Party Crasher, am I correct in assuming that my opponent must put a +1/+1 counter on my party crasher as it is attacking and mentor is neither a may ability nor an ability locked to targeting your own creature?

If Mentor triggers and the only legal target is Party Crasher, Party Crasher gets the +1/+1 counter.
