Gideon, Champion of Justice

Giant Fan Rules Clarification

Can Giant Fan put loyalty counters on my Koth of the Hammer? Gideon, Champion of Justice explicitly mentions them in his rules text, but most planeswalkers don't. Can it add counters that are only mentioned in reminder text, like Level counters?

Okay, official Un-Rules Manager errata: For Giant Fan, you can assume that all planeswalkers implicitly reference loyalty counters meaning if you move a counter with Giant Fan onto a planeswalker it can turn into a loyalty counter. The intent of Giant Fan was that it turned into the kind of counter the card used so I am ruling that although planeswalkers don’t mention loyalty counters technically by name in their rules text, Giant Fan is smart enough to look it up in the comprehensive rules and know that it uses loyalty counters.

Doubling Season Interactions

For the record: Ajani Vengeant; Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver; Domri Rade; Gideon, Champion of Justice; Jace Beleren; Jace, the Mind Sculptor; Karn Liberated; Nissa Revane; Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded & Venser, the Sojourner can't ultimate immediately with Doubling Season out. Unless you have more than one :)

FYI.

Gideon's Ability

When asked about a planeswalker with an ability that did nothing but gain loyalty, you responded, "Things like that tend to confuse players. There’s no reason not to give it a tiny ability if that’s what we wanted to do." How does this explain Gideon, Champion of Justice?

The fact that it had a function to figure out how much loyalty you gained helped make players realize that is what it did. “+1 - Nothing” I believe would confuse a lot of players.
