Crime Definition Depth

Was there ever a point where the effect resolving or not was considered as part of committing a crime? Because the effect being countered really sounds more like "attempting" a crime?

Attempted murder is *still* a crime.

Committing In-Game Crimes

Is committing a crime purely just the act of targeting an opponent or something of theirs, or if it's from resolving a spell/ability that targeted an opponent or something of theirs?Basically, if I cast Murder on their creature, and they counterspell it, did I still commit a crime? What if they sacrifice their creature in response, causing Murder to fizzle?

If you cast Murder and you’re opponent counterpells it, you’ve still committed a crime. So yes, attempted Murder is a crime. : )

Counter Rules

Which sets are sets allowed to mix +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters? I know premier sets can't and high-complexity (i.e. Masters sets, Horizons sets) can, but I was a bit surprised to see -1/-1s on the infect sticker and Attempted Murder

Supplemental sets can mostly mix them. Note that there aren’t a lot of -1/-1 counters
