Can I throw a Substitute Card when playing Dart Throw or Knife and Death?

Yes, but the cards have to be normal-size Magic cards.

Rules of Dart Throw

New 14 Oct 2022 Asked by thasgar 18 Comments

When playing the mini game for Dart Throw, does it only consider itself touching after all cards has stopped moving (like with Knife and Death), or can the thrown card touch Dart Throw some point along its travel and still count?

At the finish of the throw, when it comes to rest, it must be touching it.

Card Throwing Precision

Cards like “knife and death” and “dart throw” say to throw the cards from a distance of at least three feet “from the playing area”. Where on the playing area should I measure from? If I measure from the far corner, I’m a lot closer to the table than if I measure from the edge closest to me.

Measure from the card(s) you’re trying to hit.

Physical Dexterity Concerns

During development of Unfinity, was the amount of time physical dexterity and 'Outside the game' cards take up ever a concern? At the release events, there were a lot of games that went to time due to having to pause the game to ask someone something. Of particular issue was dart throw, and The Superlatorium because they happened repeatedly.

The mini games and outside assistance are part of the environment and were taken into account.

Can you play Dart Throw with oversized cards?

No. Whenever you’re instructed to use a card for things like Dart Throw, it has to be a normal size Magic card.

Un-set Mechanics Feedback

As a Spike/Jenny who loves Un-sets, and wants to draft them and win games, I hate that approaching cards as puzzles and trying to set up advantages beforehand is considered "cheating". (For example, I'm scared to talk to my friends at all about Phone A Friend's existence, since that might end up influencing their decisions, meaning one less person available to call.) Next time around, can we instead get more practice-friendly challenge/minigame designs like Dart Throw, D00-DL, and The Big Top?

What the right choice is for Phone a Friend is super game dependent. You can talk with them about its existence. They just can’t know your board state. Having four friends that always give the same answer (one for each choice, so you call who you need) is cheating.

Dart Throw Resolution

As a disabled player of Magic the gathering I have to admit to being a little disapointed by the design of the Attraction, Dart Throw. Is there a recomended way to resolve this card in at Limited event?

If you are unable to perform a physical action, there are two choices:1) You and your opponent can agree on an action that you can do that feels fair.2) You’re allowed to have another person perform that action in your place. If there’s another option you recommend, I’d love to hear it.

Dart Throw Mechanics

For Dart Throw, does the thrown card have to touch Dart Throw after it's landed, or is having it hit and bounce off OK? (I feel like I know what the answer would be from someone running a carnival stand, but I wanted to check so that's also how the card was meant to be played.)

It has to be touching it after it landed.
