Dancing Scimitar

Animating Inanimate Objects

New 01 Jun 2022 Asked by squirreling-dervish 28 Comments

I just noticed that Horrible Hordes and Dancing Scimitar were erratad to Artifact Creature - Spirit. (There's also Sorcerer's Broom.) The flavor/logic of this seems off. Aren't all artifact creatures a "thing" that has been animated with a "spirit"? What is a golem but a spiritized statue?

I think the idea is they are inanimate objects that got animated and came to life.

Sapient Weapons Discussion

Sapient weapons are a popular fantasy trope, but I don't think any exist in Magic (there's Living Weapon, but I'm not sure they count as sapient). Would such a weapon be an Equipment, Creature, or both?

Dancing Scimitar was a creature.

Creature Wall Proposal

"living" Walls should be the only Walls. Construct, Zombie, Elemental, whatever. Use wall as more of a class than a race. You can't "summon" something that isn't alive, summoning is calling. You can teleport a wall, you can't summon it. And a plain old "Wall" is clearly NOT a Creature. Keep walls, but get rid of Walls that are not Creatures. Please errata all past walls that doen't have races, too. Make Wall of Swords a Spirit Wall (see Dancing Scimitar), and Angelic Wall obviously an Angel Wall

I tried. Oh, how I tried. And I almost got away with it too. : )
