Return Possibility of -0/-1 Counters

New 01 Nov 2021 Asked by silpheed-tandy 24 Comments

given that R&D are less enthusiastic about -1/-1 counters, that means -0/-1 have double the chances of returning than -1/-1 counters, .. right? incoming Wall of Roots in Standard, maybe??

That does not mean that. : )

Would wall of roots really be that different if it used -1/-1 counters? I realise its not functionally identical but its close enough and far simpler.

If we reprinted it, we’d use -1/-1 counters. The reason we can’t functionally reprint it (in a normal expansion) is we no longer do -0/-1 counters.

Since -0/-1 counters are frowned upon, how would you do Wall of Roots if you chose to functionally reprint it in a set today?

We wouldn’t functionally reprint it in a normal expansion.

Could you print a card that's functionally equivalent to wall of roots except it uses -1/-1 counters?

The developers told me Wall of Roots is on the strong side but possibly reprintable in the right environment.

Does your current stance on counters prevent a standard wall of roots reprint?

The use of -0/-1 counters is the thing most preventing a reprint.

If you were to remake Wall of roots, would it have -1/-1 counters?

Most likely. It wouldn’t have -0/-1 counters as we don’t support those any more.
