Design Trade-offs

Even though Animate Dead has very complicated rules it is a very easy card to grock. Is this a trade off that design is no longer willing to make? I'd love to see cards like Animate Dead, Takklemaggot, or Dance of Many again.

Here’s a hard but important lesson Magic designers have to learn. There are enough cool things that don’t cause problems that we have to not tilt at the windmills that do. That doesn’t mean we can’t push boundaries from time to time but the reasoning should be “we think this is important to the set” and not “but it would be cool”.
