Hour of Eternity

Hour of Eternity Query

Is Hour of Eternity a break in the same line as Body Double?

It was playing into a mechanic of the set that was bending in that direction. I don’t think we’d print it in a vacuum.

Body Double Bend Analysis

I remember you saying on an Hour of Devastation article that Hour of Eternity was a bend, since it was almost as if blue was copying creatures from your own graveyard. Is Body Double bending so much it breaks because it's referring to any player's graveyard?

Body Double is a bend, not a break.

Color Pie Analysis

"(Hour of Eternity) only worked because if(sic) a specific mechanical focus in that particular set. This wouldn’t be a blue card in most sets." Doesn't that mean - in the wider world of magic and especially when Amonkhet rotates out of Standard, that Hour of Eternity is a colour pie violation, or a break?

It’s a bend. We try not to do breaks.

Hour of Eternity's Color

What makes Hour of Eternity blue?

It was Eternalizing X creatures and the Eternalize mechanic was in blue. It’s a case of something that only worked because if a specific mechanical focus in that particular set. This wouldn’t be a blue card in most sets.

HOU Storyline Praise

New 31 Jul 2017 Asked by allglorytothehypnotoad94 34 Comments

Hello :) So far I've only read the Magic stories occasionally but the HOU storyline was just so compelling and well written I stayed up last night reading it through. Especially the Hour of Eternity -story was amazing. I request the applying of high 5s to the appropriate people :)

Will do.

Cloning vs. Reanimating

New 31 Jul 2017 Asked by chewylsb 24 Comments

I don't fully see the difference between cloning from the graveyard versus reanimating. Especially when Hour of Eternity actually exiles the creature card from the graveyard, which is one of the _only_ differences between Cloning and straight reanimation, your justification for Hour of Eternity being blue rings a bit hollow for me.

I’ve already said it’s a bend in blue.

Praise for Ken Troop

Can you please give Ken Troop a huge high five for "The Hour of Devastation" and "The Hour of Eternity" stories? Ken did an amazing job with both of them. I hope he keeps being entrusted with pivotal story moments.

Will do.

Set Mechanics Influence

New 14 Jul 2017 Asked by bossarmadimon 26 Comments

How much does set-specific mechanics influence the color pie? More specifically, would Hour of Eternity still be an acceptable bend if Eternalize and Embalm weren't in blue?

It would be an unacceptable bend if they weren’t in the block.

Color Pie Debate

New 11 Jul 2017 Asked by enbypizzalover 43 Comments

Are you sure Hour of Eternity is just a bend? I can see why you say that, but I feel that it's a stretch to say it's a bend and not a break.

I’m not sure what else to say other than the color pie is something I’ve paid close attention to for a long time. Cloning dead things doesn’t undercut an inherent weakness for blue.

Blue Polymorphic Reanimation

New 10 Jul 2017 Asked by phiatratus-deactivated20190915 30 Comments

Hey Mark. Firstly, I want to say that tI really like how you guys did the story spotlight cards in HOU. It felt clean, structured and actually conveyed the story flavourfully - things that I found lacking in previous sets. Secondly, is it possible ,within blue's colour pie, to do polymorphic reanimation such as Hour of Eternity in the future (reanimation but altering the creature along the way)? It seems very fitting.

It’s a bend in blue, something we’ll do when it’s a flavor slam dunk but not a norm for blue.

Story Spotlight Speculation

Can I get a maybe on the 5 Story Spotlight cards for HOU being called: Hour of Revelation, Hour of Glory, Hour of Promise, Hour of Eternity and Hour of Devastation? :-)

Maybe. : )
